Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals that are necessary to keep our children strong and healthy.  However, it’s not always easy to get our children to choose these powerhouse foods over pizza and chicken nuggets. Try these tips to add more of the ‘good stuff’ to their diets!

Grab ‘N Go:  Have fruits and vegetables cleaned and cut up in the refrigerator.  Cut fruits and vegetables are a great no hassle snack.

Get Creative:  Create different theme nights like ‘meatless monday’ and incorporate more vegetarian meals like spaghetti, lasagna, and chili using vegetables instead of meat.

Sous Chef:  Take your child to the Farmer’s Market and allow them to pick out 1 or 2 items and let them help with preparation.

Dip It:  Experiment with dips to add dimension to vegetables.  Hummus, salsa, and yogurt based dips are healthy options that add more flavor.

Starters:  Use fruits and vegetables as an appetizer before the main course.  Give your child a few baby carrots or a small dish of blueberries while you’re getting dinner ready.

Cut it Out: Avoid buying unhealthy, high-calorie foods.  Your child may not ask for these treats if they aren’t in sight.

Be A Role Model: Eat more fruits and vegetables yourself.
