Traveling with children can be a fun, but stressful experience.  We’re sharing some tips that can make your trips and travel more enjoyable!

Traveling via Plane:

  • It’s a timely task to get through security especially with young children.  Arrive early so you aren’t rushing to get to your gate.
  • Have your children wear shoes and clothes that can easily be removed to go through security check.
  • Strollers can be brought through airport security and gate-checked to make travel easier.
  • Pack a small bag of toys and snacks to keep your child occupied while on the flight.
  • To decrease ear pain during descent, have infants nurse or suck on a bottle.  Older children can chew gum or drink liquids with a straw.

Traveling via Train:

  • Arrive early to the station to pick up tickets and get seats together on the train.
  • Larger bags are usually stored away from your seat.  Bring a carry on bag that contains toys, snacks, extra clothes, and blankets.
  • Not all trains have a changing table.  To be safe, bring a waterproof blanket that can be spread out on the seat.
  • Check for delays before you leave home.

Traveling via Automobile:

  • Always make sure you and your children are buckled up while traveling.  Whether you or someone else is driving, make sure there is no cell phone use.
  • Children become restless on long road trips.  Point out interesting sights along the way and play some of their favorite songs.
  • Every two hours, plan to take a break to allow your children to stretch their legs and go to the bathroom.
  • Never leave your child alone in the car.  Temperatures can reach deadly levels in just minutes.
  • Always have a “traveler’s kit”.  Fill it with water, extra clothes and snacks, hand wipes, diaper toiletries, and insect repellent (for when children play outside).
