Rakesh Chopra
M.D., F.A.A.P.
Dr. Rakesh Chopra was born in Altoona, PA, and graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, graduating with honors. He went on to medical school at Ohio State University College of Medicine and trained in pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital, which ranks in the nation’s top 5 children’s hospitals. In 2003, he returned to join his father, Dr. Ramesh Chopra, in practice.
Dr. Chopra has a passion for pediatrics and considers it an honor and privilege to provide care for patients and families in our community.
Dr. Chopra served as chair of the UPMC Altoona Pediatrics Department from 2015 – 2018 and has been voted Teaching Attending of the Year for the Altoona Family Practice Program at UPMC Altoona. He has been nominated every year for Hometown Favorite Pediatrician/Physician since the category was introduced in 2013. Chopra Pediatrics has won the Hometown Favorite Pediatrician award in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, and is nominated again in 2020!
Fun fact! His favorite childhood toys include GI Joe, Transformers, and Star Wars action figures!
